Plain weave is the simplest basic type of weave, as old as humankind itself. It is a so-called “balanced” weave, meaning the ratio of warp to weft binding points is 1:1. This gives the fabric the same appearance on the front and back.
Linen with cotton (barchet) has been known and popular in Europe since the end of the 13th century. Compared to pure linen, this fabric is made of finer fibers with a denser weave.
